'77 Civic 1200 water valve
So, my heater control valve is stuck in the "most heat" position. OEM replacement obviously not available. Looking for a drop-in replacement has me seeing cross-eyed.
I was told by an old radiator shop guy that he kind of remembered either adapting a later version Civic heater control valve or he used a similar year Fiat unit (124?).
Does anyone know a replacement model "water valve" that's a known solution in 1st gen Civics?

Do you mean #7 in this diagram? If it is, your problem might be that the cable is broken or stuck -- and needs replacement/adjustment. If that is not the case, you can remove the valve and soak it in CLR, etc. That might "unstick" it. You can also search EBAY, junkyards for a replacement. These don't tend to wear out -- they just can get stuck. The valve will be the same on the CVCC and Station Wagon Civic for any year from 1994 to 1979. I have an entire heater core and fan that I hope to get posted on EBAY this week.

Cabling and controls all confirmed good and it is indeed the valve that is the problem. I like the idea of a CLR soak-n-work to hopefully free it off.
Honda lists different part numbers for the later generation ('79 - '94) "water valves" so am assuming perhaps a fit/form revision change? Or not...certainly worth a look-see.
Thanks and cheers!!
Its a common leak point too. I know there has been a lot of people looking for good parts as they age. Soaking in CLR may make it leak, but not much choice at this point.
Sorry. I guess a COPY/PASTE error. Try this link for the diagram:

This calls it the "water valve" and is a good diagram of the two connections & clamps, and one (or probably two) bolts holding it in place.
The biggest problem might be getting it out and back in -- and old, brittle hoses.
