has anyone ever ran a honda dizzy (b series obd1 in my case) off of just an arduino? I've seen the trojantuning COP setup, but it requires an injector signal. I don't want to run the ecu at all.

 

You could. It's only three outputs and one input (looking from the distributor), one input of which isn't even necessary to run an engine (TDC) unless using an OEM Honda ecu. You'd likely want to rectify the VR signals to 0-5V square pulses, which is just basic discrete electronics.

The real question is why? You building a carby dirt car or something? I'd bet my lunch money you could strip even a basic CROME calibration down to run just the ignition maps and have something more reliable and tunable than an Arduino could offer.

Reason being, I want to run cycle carbs. Mostly "because it's cool". Car has a bit of a mad max vibe as well, carbs fit. Was planning on running the factory ecu initially but a harness fire pretty much insured that I'm going the stand alone route. Was able to mock up an hei ripoff dizzy from a tercel but I'm scratching my head trying to time the thing. Plus it's only being held to the head by c clamps, eventually going to have to come up with something.
