Neutral safety switch wiring questions?
Hello all. I have recently purchased a 2001 civic. I got the car safety inspected and the car was starting while in gear. They tried a new NSS and the problem still was there. I believe the previous owner may have bypassed the switch to get the car to start. Does anyone have any advice for what I should look into to see if this is what has occurred? Like what would I look for to see if it was bypassed? Any and all advice is appreciated, thanks in advance.
There are various different ways to bypass the circuit. Two out of the several different ways are:
1. Directly grounding (-) the lt grn wire that goes to the starter cut relay coil (located in the under-dash fuse box). (The grounding can be done before the lt grn wire, starting from the transmission range switch all the way to the under-dash fuse box.)
2. Bypass starter cut relay by connecting the ignition switch Blk/Wht power wire (+) going to the under-dash fuse box to the Blk/Wht wire coming out of the under-dash fuse box that goes to the starter.
The bypass can be anywhere along the wiring in the circuit; but, start by looking near the ignition switch area and the under-dash fuse box for non-OEM wire connectors and splices.
