I have a ’98 ITR that had a perfect interior until this summer. Even though I use a windshield sunshade the portion of the dash that is closest to the windshield (defroster vent area) developed cracks in several spots. I went to the Acura body shop to ask if they could fix it they said sure, $1,000.+ for a new dash and removal/installation.

I then tried one of the custom interior shops, who said they could NOT fix it. He immediately asked me if I used Armor All, I replied yes and he said that is what caused my dash to crack. He went on to say that stuff has caused many a horror story, use only a rag and water to clean any interior plastic.

If there is anyone who has found a way to repair cracks in the defroster vent plastic please share it with the rest of the forum.

Lexol Vinylex - not greasy like armor all and doesn't contain alcohol...alcohol is the main reason why it causes cracks in dashes. plus, it has sunscreen protection.

 

i've actually seen professional auto restorers/detailers make miracles when i was working at the dealership....touch-up gunmetal wheels, scratches, dings etc....i was amazed.

last time i saw them work on a dash, it was on a 2000 gsr that some kid traded in. he had screw mounted one of those huge tachs on the dash, leaving an indention and screw holes when the boss removed it....couple days later after the detailer performed his magic, you had to really look and find the spot...fantastic.

try calling a local detailer and see if they are cheaper than a new dash. good luck man
