So I have an 04 automatic 2WD. I am planning on swapping to a 6 speed manual transmission. But one thing I am not clear on is do I have to use an Element 5 speed transmission and add the 6th gear like here (https://www.elementownersclub.com/th...s-parts.25635/) Or is that only required for the AWD Elements? Could I instead just get the box from a 7th/8th/9th gen Civic Si or TSX?

 

TSX and Accord cases won't have the correct mounting locations.

 

It sounds like I would have the same issue with RSX and Civic Si boxes. Is there any reason I couldn't fab mounting brackets for one of those boxes rather then buying a Element 5 speed and then buying all the parts needed to fit 6 speeds into the gearbox?

 

Might be cheaper to start with an element case and add the 6th gear. Ricer tax is pretty high on the 6 speed k series stuff.
