Just had the Engine oil and filter replaced on my brother's Accord after 10,000kms. We watched a couple of videos on resetting the oil life. However my brother says that previously it used to show how many kms to the next oil change. Now it doesn't.
Does anyone know how to key that information in?
Certainly. Don't worry about it. There is no estimate of the distance-to-oil-change that applies from the last change, so ou can't "reset" it.
The Maintenance Minder (MM) keeps track of several factors that include, but is not limited to, the distance you have driven since the last change. Time, temperature, average trip length, and several other factors all affect oil integrity. In the past, it was not possible to integrate all of these factors together. So recommendations were to change the oil at the minimum distance, or time, that your oil could have degraded to the point where it wasn't functioning properly. This was almost certainly too soon, but there was no simple way to evaluate it. Now there is. The MM.
The MM will tell you how much degradation it estimates has occurred, in terms of a percentage. Recommendations are that you should start to plan to replace it when it reaches 15%. Theoretically, you don't need to do so until it reaches 0%. But since it is just as estimate, and you may not be able to get to it immediately, 15% is a good time to do it. I don't know about European models, but in the USA the messages start to change at this point:
The last one applies only after you have hit 0%, and it tells you how far you have driven past the point you should have. Your European model appears to be different, but you can see what it does by simply looking in your Owner's manual.
