Default How can you get a GSR transmission these days?

I'm assuming I'd need to rebuild it, but how do or where is a decent place to start looking for a GSR transmission? And best way to tell its actually a GSR trans vs someone passing off a Civic trans?

I sell all my used parts on Facebook groups, for example there are Facebook groups like SFWD Community, SFWD Drag Racing, etc. I see people on those groups buying and selling all the time which is your best bet.

Yea step out of the bubble and use fb and offer up.

Hit up the transmission rebuilders. Aquafina synchro tech etc

Youre gonna pay a good price for a stock gsr trans. Saw one last week listed for about 7-800

Should have kept the deal on the one years back from Turbo-LS for $500 but he kept dragging his feet to the point of it being uncomfortable questionably sketchy.

7-800 is fine with me, just need a nice one. I absolutely hate FB and the idiots that are on it. Seems like they are all the true Honda ricers.

Just keep in mind a $700 fb trans is going to need a minimum of $300 in bearings alone. You could always call up HMO if you like it with no lube.

I would start with the regional classified here on Honda-tech and try to meet someone locally.
Give Hmotorsonline a call, and you might be on hold 20 minutes, but they should have a good answer. If they don’t have any in stock, they can tell you if it will be weeks/ months to try back.
Try wd-r.com it says sometimes they can source transmissions.
Then I’d try Facebook groups, but I’d only meet someone in person, don’t send someone the money ahead of time, or it’s at your own risk.
Maybe Craigslist next to find one locally.
Also local performance shops, “tuner” shops.

I think the “market” for a GSR transmission in good condition is at least $700, but not more than about $900/1,000. Unless it’s rebuilt/modified- then ask for receipts and maybe to look at the inside of the transmission if it seems shady.
I have a B series transmission I’m holding onto, so I looked into buying one months ago. You wouldn’t want mine though, and I’m not selling it right now.

Don't tempt me, I've thought about that. Is it any more affordable these days and less custom work?

It is and you can actually find B-series AWD transmissions, you can't beat going from FWD to AWD.

Isn't it like $5,000 in the end or more? And then what about exhaust routing? All the AWD cars I've seen have the hood exhaust. This is a DD and I hate how Honda's sound so I plan to keep it as quiet as possible.

Yeah, really depends on how far you want to take it, for example:
  • I paid $700 bucks for an AWD B-series trans with starter and transfer case, you can leave it stock if you want but you probably wouldn't want to make more than 450whp stock.
  • If you have a b-series swap all you need is a new t-bracket and trans mount bracket which was $170 bucks.
  • You can buy a Ktuned shifter, cables and base plate for like $800
  • The most expensive part would be the rear trailing arm and mount kit which is about $2500
  • I bought a 2007-2011 rear diff for $109 bucks and it's like $150 bucks for the locking plates so you can use a viscous coupler
  • I've seen the Freelander Viscous and Drive shaft going for $200 bucks.
So right there you are at about $4600 and even if you spend another $1000 on misc parts/labor it is totally worth it if you ask me. I've also seen guys reroute the exhausts to make it work and use modified fuel tanks as well.
Again you can do it cheaper and you can do it way more expensive but to get away from FWD is worth it LOL

Drob has a really clean awd rsx he finished up a few months ago. I think he daily drives it.

Theres only so much you can buy and bolt on. You gotta get creative with some things to get what you want.

I was at tge junkyard sun getting a knuckle for my civic and saw a mint awd crv. Something like that would be perfect to grab all the parts from and get going.
