2005 crv codes P0442 and P0457
I've had two smoke tests done by two different mechanics, both showed no leaks and I still get the same codes. As long as I keep a full tank of gas the codes don't show up, however if I drive around 50 miles the check engine light comes on and the code comes back. If I keep filling the tank after 30 miles , no codes.
One wanted to replace everything to the tune of $2500. The other just said keep clearing the code.
I have emissions coming soon and it needs to pass.
What is the next step ???

It may be related to the fuel cap. After every fill up, turn the gas cap at least 3 clicks. If issue still persist even with turning the gas cap at least 3 clicks, try a new Honda gas cap.
That was the first thing I did, replace the gas cap, clean the inside of the filler.
The more I talk to people about it, I'm thinking the charcoal filter may be bad, or possibly corroded wires on one of the sensors. But everything works like it's supposed to. I'm just frustrated at this point.

Well, a follow up. It's been in and out of the shop for 3 weeks. New canister, purge valve, tank pressure sensor, and a few new lines. I still get the p0442 code. Itll start out on the odometer saying to check fuel cap. I'll hit the button to turn it off, but after a dozen times or so the check engine light comes back on with the 0442 code. My mechanic just keeps doing smoke tests and changing parts. I understand it can be a difficult process.
Does anyone have any thoughts on what the next steps should be?

My suggestion is to take it to Honda and let them diagnose it. You don’t have to let them do the work but at least they should be more knowledgeable with your CRV. Who knows maybe there’s a software update (wishful thinking). Just don’t keep throwing parts at it.
