Default New civic owner

Hello, I just recently got a 1998 civic LX sedan. I figured it'd be a food start to learn more about cars and how to fix then myself. The one I got happens to have this weird issue where it's either keeps slipping or gets stuck in a gear. 1 problem i have is our of no where it'll slip and when I try gassing it, my rpms shoot up but I have almost no power to my engine. Then I turn it off and back on and it's fixed.
another problem I have is sometimes when I'm driving I'll very lightly touch the gas pedal and my car will try absolutely gunning it, so i have to be extra extra soft on the pedal . anyone know what this could be? 144k miles on the engine.
last question, not as important though, when can I do to make my honda as reliable as possible and keep fuel economy up (besides not gassing it which I don't have the option of right now anyways)

After doing some research, im gonna check if it's the oxygen sensors, as the cars been running without a muffler for years.

Yea check O2 sensors, TPS and maybe the clutch is slipping bad?..

Do a full tune up! including plugs, checking the ignition timing and all fluids etc..

Will definitely look into those. If the clutch is slipping should I replace the clutch and the fly wheel?
