Default Am I wasting my time looking into turbo-ing my k24a8 accord?

I have been doing some searching and I haven't found any k24A8 turbo builds with much information so far. The one thread I found, there was a guy saying they won't handle any boost and it's a waste of time. Another guy in the same thread said it's the same motor as the a4 just with a different camshaft and with DBW. Can anyone tell me whether or not this is true?

First off, let me say I haven't built up a piston engine before, and I don't have experience with turbos. I do have experience with rotary engines, but I don't think that's really gonna help with this.
My goals for the Accord would be 225-300HP without a lot of turbo lag, so I'd probably want a smaller turbo that spools fast. Would that be possible with stock rods? stock pistons even? People with 24A4's have apparently built 400hp turbo motors on stock bottom end.
Is this a reasonable goal for a bone stock 150k+ miles k24A8? Would I need a rebuild? I'm not afraid of doing the work, just not looking to spend a million dollars on this. I could call up my friend who owns a junkyard if I would need TSX or Accord 24A4 rods or crank or some other pieces, he sees 24A4 accords all the time and an occasional TSX. Or I could just get some aftermarket parts too. Again, I'm new to building piston engines so thanks for being patient with me

Sounds like a weird build, but - https://www.k20a.org/threads/k24a8-f...-360tq.111911/

I'd probably just stick to something more traditional. If you're doing this because it's your only car and you want it to be faster, you're likely to give up a lot of reliability and drivability. Better off just selling it and getting something else.

I do have another car, but I suppose it wouldn't be wise to trust my 35 year old RX-7 to get me to work every day, LOL.

When you say more traditional, what do you mean? NA build with TSX head? Something similar?

Yes, either a car or an engine that is much more commonly built. There will be more informationl resources available and more aftermarket support. Overall, it would likely be easier and cheaper.

Well, I think for now I won't be getting a new car. At least until the market calms down. I got this accord because it $1700 and it was the only thing that was non-rusty, manual, and running for under 15k. But I could easily get a TSX A2 motor, and since I'll need a tunable ECU no matter which direction I go it seems like it might be the move.

I have a 2006 Honda Accord coupe K24a8 (5 speed manual) that I’m planning on getting turbo mode as well. Funny enough, I paid $1800 for this 187,000 mile car. A year later it has 198,500 miles, and it’s also getting a turbo. I had a shop (specialize in race builds) tell me it’ll be fine because I’m also not aiming on 600hp, just wanna spice up my driving a little as well. Aiming on 300hp just to make my highway drives a little more fun. I think you should be good. Did you get it done?

Nope. The K24A8 is the next version of the K24a4 i guess with a slightly better intake cam. You dont really see people opting for it because its a lil more rare (07-08) only, and they just go for the K24a4. It is DBW so its best to stay with what ever u got currently. You could turbo it with Ktuner and get and 240-285whp safely with it. I currently have a 2007 with a k24a8 and going to swap it out for a K24a2 and Z3 civic Si gear set with lsd. The stock accord gears suck lol.

I didn't get it done, life got busy and it turns out my $1700, 280k mile accord had a few issues that I needed to tackle before doing any performance upgrades. (Big surprise there.) Being off at campus since September didn't help me out either. Not to mention, a few other cars are catching my eye and I'm not even sure I'm going to hold onto the Accord.

My plan at this point, if I don't sell the Accord for something else, is to get
-A spare engine (if I can get one, I'll go for a K24A2)
-A turbo manifold off Ebay, I have a turbo from a friend
-A Speeduino UA4C ECU, which will probably require me to switch to
-A cable throttle body

I'd ideally like to get something that can run on an engine stand, while also having a running car. Then I can drop it in with minimal downtime. But I admit, this is a little intimidating to a beginner like me, even with all the research time I have into this. It probably will be a while before I can get this put together.

So you guys wouldn't recommend doing anything to a k24a8?
