Clunking Noise in first?
Hey everyone! first time on these forums and I've been looking around for a little over a hour and can't find a good answer so I figured I'd ask.
Car is a 2000 Civic EX coupe 5 Speed with a D16Y8, everything is stock except a fart can, it was owned by a older lady and her son put it on so she sold it to me for a good price because she didn't like it.
Anyways when I was driving home (8 hour drive) I noticed 3rd gear sounded like it had a slight grind if you were engine braking, so I didn't engine brake at all, a couple weeks go by and now there's a clunk
as soon as you release the clutch starting out in first, it doesn't happen in any other gear. It's one clunk as soon as the clutch is released in first. turning doesn't affect it as it does this going straight or in a turn
I'm going off to a trade school soon and would love to fix these problems before I take off so I have something to come back to and get a job with, thanks in advance for any help.

Check for possible worn out engine and/or transmission mounts, play in the axles, worn out suspension components. See if you can give more specific details as to where you hear the noise, can you feel anything in conjunction with the noise. Is it only when leaving from a stop? Does it only occur with use of the clutch or can it be heard/felt with just the accelerator?
Lots of variables and possibilities with this one.

That’s where I would start.
For the grind in 3rd gear, it might just be like that. I’ve had a transmission do that in 3rd gear also, I was able to continue to use it, but I was careful with it.
Or both problems could be related to a worn out engine mount. Look at the rear one especially.

Hey! thank you for your response, I notice it only starting from a dead stop, and it seems to come from the front drivers side. no real feel in accelerator, i will check motor and trans mounts and see about axle play. Thank you!
