99 EX, Painting fog light covers, front lip, sideskirts
I know there's a lot of posts like this already but I may ask questions in the middle process. Okay so my plan is like this, please give advice or help: wash foglight covers, front lip and sideskirt with dawn dishsoap, use nail polish remover, rinse, wet sand foglight covers, front lip and sideskirt 220, 320, 400, 600, and I might jump to 2000. And I think there is a coating or a silicone sealant on front lip so do I have to sand until the lip isn't shiny??? and im not sure about a coating on the sideskirt. Then after sanding I will wash all the stuff [foglight covers, front lip, sidskirts] with dawn soap again. Now here is where I'm not sure so please help again. I think I will use a tack cloth, then here is where we start spraying? Do I spray adhesion promotor on front lip and sideskirts as the first coat? And how much do I need to spray? Then I think I will spray sandable primer exactly on top of the adhesion promotor correct? I will then wet sand primer with 600. Do I have to use tack cloth on primer or wash with soap or something like between coats? Then paint goes on blah blah and clear coat. Some people say to use a scuff pad but since this lip is not brand new it was put on the car by previous owner unpainted and driven like that for how much time I don't know, but I used sandpaper. Thank you all in advance.

clean part (water bucket with a few drop of dawn is fine)
sand all part until there is no shine left
clean part (water bucket with a few drop of dawn is fine)
wax and grease remover
tack rag
adhesion promoter (a light mist coat is enough)
prime
sand
wax and grease remover
tack rag
base coat
clear coat
and no. you do not need to go so high in grit
400 should be enough for you to prime
600-800 will will be good for your base coat

hey so i got a spray can of wax and grease remover by rustoleum, is this ok? how would i use it because I'm not sure. do you spray it on the lip and wipe it or something? i also saw gallons of wax and grease removers but I didn't get those. i think those are slime-like applying on, while the spray can is just spraying it on like paint.
another thing to mention and its important. so while dry-sanding all my stuff, i think the sandpaper keeps getting clogged up. the sideskirts plastic keeps sticking on to the sandpaper, same thing with the front lip. 100% this is making the sandpaper ineffective. so what i did was wet sand instead, do you think i was supposed to dry sand only or was wet sanding the same thing? i wet sanded using 220, 320, 400, 600, i basically started over with wet sanding. first i wanted to dry sand but its just so bad getting clogged up, it wont do any sanding at all other than rubbing the plastic back onto the sideskirt and lip.

Okay, I used that rust oleum spray can of wax and tar remover, apparently it leaves a residue so I don’t know if I should continue using it. After spraying wax and tar remover I just rinsed it off of water and dried it. I think I’m gonna use dawn soap.
as for the sanding thing I’ll reword it. I was dry sanding but it kept getting clogged so it was inefficient. I started over with wet sanding. I think dry cuts faster and wet is just for smoothing so I kinda did it the wrong way but since I didn’t wanna spend that much money, wet sanding just makes the sandpaper last longer.
