Default All motor question

I run a stock bottom end with Skunk 2 cams, retainers, stainless valves, etc.

Right now I have a stock ITR intake manifold and RC 270cc injectors with a stock fuel rail, and stock throttle body. Skunk 2 ECU and Apex VTEC controller. Rev limiter set at 9,000. This is a road race car, so low rpm power not impt.

does anyone have experience with aftermarket intake manifolds, fuel rails, and throttle bodies when no NAZ or forced induction is involved.

Looking for suggestions re: improving the breathing and high rpm horsepower. Also, any one had much success with head work on the ITR head.

Thanks

Your stock manifold works fine. You really dont need any more fuel just get good tuning

You could be a little more specific.

IMO, the ITR intake manifold, throttle body and fuel rail are fine up to 210+WHP.

What header/exhaust are you running? I would look into raising the compression and some ECU/fuel tuning.

6ghatch thanks for your reply.

I have a DC Sports 4-1 one piece header. this goes through a 2.5 inch pipe to a borla exhaust, no converter, this car is a track car only, not streetable. Also have a lightweight flywheel.

have approximately 195-196 at the wheels now, still can tune some more.

Cannot change the bottom end components, they have to be sourced from honda parts. Did balance the bottom end, but did not knife edge the crank.

Hey Frank, which skunk 2 cams are your running?? Remember, you have to use a honda Intake Manifold... With proper tunning w/ the VAFC, you should be able to get over 200..

There are other people here that could help you a LOT! I just hope they do, good luck Frank..

Corey - who hopes to see 200whp in 2003....

Can you run CTR pistons ? They are OEM Honda and will bump your power.

i decided to keep honda injectors....even withthe prelude injectors i was maxed out!!!!! i'm adding 20% from 4-7k......and everytime i added more fuel more power....once i max'd out the vafc i pump fuel pressure to 60 and still picked up power!!!!i need bigger injectors!!!

IMO, If your on a budget, you may want to upgrade to a DC JDM 4-1 or the JDM ITR header with 2.5in collector, this will give you the additional flow you need for top end power.

If you want the best, invest in a SMSP or Hytech custom header/exhaust system or a Toda, Spoon or "new" Comptech header.

To raise compression put in CTR pistons and that will put you at 11.75:1

Then just add some larger injectors, tune and your ready for H1.

Good luck

Corey, Chad, and 6ghatch, thanks for your reply's

To answer some of the questions.

Skunk 2 Stage 2 Cams

Good suggestions re: the CTR pistons, and I will be changing the header anyway due to clearance issues, cannot lower the car enough with the DC sports 4-1 since it hangs down past the oil pan too far.

Chad, I had a pair of 240cc balanced by RC and ran those for the first few races, Then for the last race VIR I switched to RC 270cc (did not know they were illegal ,sorry) but I was way rich the whole time at 50psi (did not finish tuning the Apex), ie plenty of fuel for the setup I have now. The 270cc or the lude injectors should do you fine. But if you were maxed out with the lude injectors and 60psi, I want your bottom end and everything else, wow!!! What was your air/fuel ratio??

Corey, I got an email from Karl that injectors, fuel rails and pumps were free for 2003, I read it wrong and thought that the whole intake system from the head up was free my bad

Frank

high rpm HP is in the header ... spend the money on the header if thats all you're after, your HP will peak at a much higher RPm with a HyTech or even a Toda header... $1K ish ...

not sure why you need high rpm HP if you're road racing, but your call.

Its going to be very hard to find a header that will give you more ground clearance, but I do believe Dave at SMSP has a ground clearance happy header design..

Properly tune the VAFC and Fuel pressure reg, and you will see power..

When I say high rpm power I am talking about 5k to 9k. Without changes to the bottom end, I can't see much more torque than I have, and I keep the car over VTEC at all times.

A torque monster like Corey's prelude would be a lot of fun, and would help momentum driving by eliminating a lot of shifting, but the ITR engine likes to rev, and that is what I have.

Thanks everyone for your input and help. Keep the thread going.
