98 civic Y8 new alternator now just cranks
Hello all,
I have a 98 civic I just picked up for 400 and it has me stumped… I dropped my good Y8 swap in it drove it to work Monday ran fine, got a battery light so I replaced alternator. Started the car no more battery light, all good, so I went on to fixing a VSS issue I had, the yellow wire for vss was broke back in the loom behind block so I repaired that.. put it all back nice and neat.
when I was putting the thing back together like a bone head I don’t know how I had missed disconnecting the battery and when I was putting the 10mm nut back on my alternator i jumped it off the IM and sparked pretty good.
So now the darn thing just cranks I’ve checked all relays, fuses and famous #15, all good, pump good, fuel at rail, #1 plug fires.. so did I fry my ecu? Dizzy? Thank you for your time.

Went through literally everything on the car, didn’t make sense. Only thing I found was spark died off the longer you turn it over and the plugs were still dry.
So I took the harness back out of the car went over the whole thing and the main thermostat ground was only attached by 1 wire.
Repaired the break, put harness back in and fired right up. Next time I’m going to be a little more careful with these 20+ year old engine harnesses. Thanks. Chris
