Hello everyone, I am new to this forum but not to honda's in general. We have had an 08 civic hybrid in the family for 6 years.

On a recent trip, the car decided to eat its spark plugs. Never seen anything like it before, but found a post of the eric the car guy forum where someone described basically the same thing (so weird). Anyway, the number 4 cylinder only has 50 psi of compression now and rather than try and fix it, i am thinking of swapping in a JDM engine and trans (Car has 193k miles on it).

Anyone know if this is a plug and play swap? I have been looking for the past few hours and can't really find any info on this particular range of cars 06-11.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

 

Well, I will go ahead and answer my own question in the hopes it help someone in the future. Yes it is plug and play. However you have to swap your US wiring harness onto the jdm engine. You may be able to tune the ecu to delete the rear o2 sensor ( jdm engine only has upstream o2). However, from what I could find quickly it doesn't seem that the hybrid ecu has tuning support. Additionally it may be possible to use the jdm ecu if you can flash the immobilizer as it's located in the ecu. Ultimately, I decided to swap the harness and exhaust manifold as it seems like the most straightforward option and only took a little over an hour with the engine out of the car.
