Ignition key and switch won't turn on
I have noticed this problem when I bought the car - the key would stick and not turn on sometimes but would still turn on with giving the key movement in the lock cylinder - anything suggestions other than changing the whole ignition assembly and keys ??
Perhaps you can find a problem with the mechanism if you take it apart , try moving the steering wheel when the problem occurs , if you replace it I think the dealer will have to program things to get the car to start so you may as well have them do it ., Make sure the air bag doesn't go off if you decide to tackle it yourself .
A locksmith may have a lower price if they can get the ignition switch but they generally can't do the programming . Can't hurt to ask , I go to a pro locksmith for any key to be made instead of the quicky mart or hardware store .
Your key has a chip that signals a transponder in the column that tells the computer to run the car as I remember , A key has to be programmed , if you're not into it bite the bullet and take it to the dealer
