Fuse 29 and 31 Parasitic draw
Hi,
I’m looking for help with a parasitic draw.
My mothers 2014 civic EX has a 100-120 mA draw across fuse 29 labeled (backup)
and inside under the dash across fuse 31 labeled (SMART).
It’s enough that if she doesn’t start it every day then it’ll drain the battery.
I had the battery replaced twice and the alternator replaced.
I even took it to Honda where they told me that nothing was wrong and that she just doesn’t drive it enough.
It was then that I decided to try to track it down myself.
I’ve latched the hood and door and let everything go to sleep before trying to track it down and these are the only draws I can find.
I believe fuse 31 goes to the push button start but I’m not positive. I was hoping it was a relay somewhere stuck open but I’m having trouble finding any info on them or any wiring schematics.
I’d appreciate any help I could get.
Thanks

Smart is probably the smart key system including the ignition and the doors and all the antennas that run it.
Are you moving the key far away from the vehicle when testing? It could be the key in proximity of the antennas that is keeping that system awake.
Probably have to go pay Honda $25 for access to their service data online. 2014 is new enough they didn't have printed manuals. The good news is the factory electronic manuals are full color for the wire diagrams making it a lot easier to follow along.

I didn’t think about the doors. I was hoping it was just a stuck relay but I don’t think I’ll get that lucky.
Thanks though.
We have the same issue with wife's 2014 Civic-EX (for a couple years). Replaced 3 batteries (2 via AAA) and now the car battery will die if it isn't driven every day.
I've also done a bit of research and hoped it was the infamous AC relay, but it does not appear so. We pulled every relay we could find and tested (with an multimeter set to ohms) across the bigger copper fins and all tested OPEN (infinite resistance) so to me that means the relay is working.
If the relay was stuck closed or had corrosion, there would be some sort of reading on the multimeter, right?
The only two relays we couldn't test are in the driver-side under the dash. There are 5 relays in that fuse panel, and two are way up at the very top and inaccessible by normal means.
Hey HoopJack -- did you ever find what the problem was with your Mom's Civic?
