CEL on and runs in limp mode at random times??
i need some honda veterans... so my 96 honda with a d16z6 and a y8 trans obd1 and vtec converted had the CEL on for a while and ran in limp mode (hella slow and wouldn't go past 4k rpm's) and trying to check what the code was would result in nothing (jumping the connector the code would just stay solid) so i can't find any codes at all it just doesn't throw one, and i thought it was connected to a leak near the fuses and connectors next to the clutch pedal because when it was dry and not raining for a day or two and the water in there dried up then it would run just fine with no CEL. i fixed the leak so no water came in when it was raining and it was working just fine, even in the rain which was unheard of. so after about a week of the car running just fine, dry conditions and everything, the light comes back on. and back into limp mode we go. so i absolutely cannot figure out what could be causing this for the life of me, someone please help.
i have noticed also that if the cel is on and my car is running weird that if i drive around for a bit (say like running errands) after a few stops i'll come back to my car and when i turn it on it will be just fine. but still sometimes when i get in first thing in the morning it's okay too so i don’t know

The idea here is to test another ECU to see if the problem goes away... it isn't about how "FUN" the car is. If the problem remains, then your ECU may be just fine. Since the CEL doesn't stay on all of the time, but for measured periods... there is a distinct possibility that you have failing capacitors inside your ECU. Replacing them may resolve your issue IF the ECU is the problem.

In theory... yes, assuming that your D16Z6 is all stock. I am not suggesting you spend $250 on a whim... don't you have any friends or acquaintances who you could borrow an ECU for fifteen minutes and see what happens ?
engine is not stock i have a different cam and it's vtec converted in the current ecu and i don't have any friends that have a d series
