Default clutch help needed

i was hoping someone with a bit more experience may be able to help point me in the right direction to figure things out. the vehicle is a 2004 honda civic with the 1.7L 5 speed transmission. things have been going ok with it till the other day when something in the system went bad and i limped it home. the clutch wont disengage when you press the clutch pedal. i limped it home shifting without the clutch and starting it in 1st gear. the clutch reservoir still has fluid in it. there is now a squeaking noise when you press the clutch and it does nothing. i have a feeling from doing some googling i may need a new clutch but is there any other way to verify this without tearing it all apart? this thing was suppose to be my winter beater but wont do me any good till it is fixed. i am normally use to working on old junk and not newer stuff. definitely got to get this sorted out asap so i can put my summer car away and have hopefully have a good and reliable winter beater.
