Don't buy one of those cheapass short shifters. All it will do is make you grind up your syncros.

The reason you grind your gears is because you aren't use to the shorter shift. Which means that you'll have to push the clutch in faster to make up for the faster shift.

I have a "cheap ebay brand" shifter and love every moment of it. I also have an ACT XTSS so the shifts are short and snappy.

It will take some getting use to, you'll miss 2nd gear a couple of times and possibly go from 2nd to 5th until you get use to the shorter distance. Put it in, on the first test run, don't rip through the gears, just learn your shifter. I love mine

I'd reconsider, especially on your budget. I have a $60 Ractive shifter that has never fit quite right despite many hours under the car.

I'd say get some shifter bushings. They make a noticeable difference in the feel of your shifter, and fit right the first time. After you get them, you probably won't want to bother with a short shifter.
