Engine Oil Brand/Weight - Built K24a Turbo (Motul 8100?)
Hey all,
Been reading about oils all day. Any recommendations for a built (pistons, rods, stock size acl bearings, K20 oil pump, etc) K24 with a target HP goal north of 800? It'll be about 70% street 30% strip use in the North East (It might be driven once or twice in early December for a dyno session, but otherwise will be garaged during the winter months).
I'm about to pull the trigger on "MOTUL - 8100 X-CESS GEN2" 5W-40, but wanted to get some final opinions before doing so. Anyone see a good reason to use something different?
FWIW, here are other brands/weights I'm considering:
(a) PENNGRADE 1 (Brad Penn) - Partial Synthetic High Performance 10W-40 ("Partial Syntheic" kinda turns me off, even though it probably shouldn't)
(b) AMSOIL - Signature Series 5W-30 Synthetic Motor Oil (OEM weight, but a little on the light side)
(c) AMSOIL - Signature Series 0W-40 Synthetic Motor Oil (Too light on cold starts?)
(d) AMSOIL - Premium Protection 10W-40 Synthetic Motor Oil (This is an oddball oil I've used in the past - doesn't seem to be part of any of their series?)
I am the owner/engine builder, so unfortunately I can't simply ask the engine builder in this case haha. Also, I've successfully used Rotella in the past, but this is a more expensive, low mileage build, so I don't mind paying more for a premium brand.
Thanks!

I’d do 5W-40 or 10W-40 synthetic, but I don’t know about brands or have actual experience at 800+hp, it’s just from what I’ve read.
Basically one step thicker than stock.

I'm a Bred Penn guy, but I'd look to the drag racers forum for that answer, as being the builder you would be best to know of the bearing clearances tp9 determine that
I'm running PennGrade in my setup, it seems like PennGrade and Schaeffer are the main two go-to performance oils from everything I've seen. That isn't to say that there aren't plenty of other popular options though like AMSOIL, Valvoline VR1, Lucas, Red Line, etc.
Since you have stock size bearings I wouldn't go crazy thick on the weight.
