Default JDM Integra Type R DB8 Import Thread

Hey HT! I just purchased a 1997 Integra Type R DB8 from Japan. Grade 3.5 (less than 4 due to mileage) / B interior with just over 100,000 miles on it. It has a Mugen exhaust and Bilstein coilovers (no clue why it’s dumped in the rear!) The vehicle is otherwise stock. It retains the factory owner's manuals and maintenance records. I paid a very fair price which included the vehicle, shipping, insurance, fees, etc. It will be arriving in January. I plan on documenting my restoration process as the vehicle appears to have some cosmetic flaws (see valve cover and exterior decals) in addition to some questionable interior modifications (gauges/radio). These areas will be returned to OEM or OEM+. I am so excited for the vehicle to arrive in January!

Parts I have ordered so far (OEM unless specified):
Coolant
PS Fluid
MTF
NIB JDM Valve Cover
Valve Cover Gasket Kit
"Type R" Left/Right/Rear/Engine Strut Bar Decals
Spark Plugs/Dizzy Cap/Rotor/Leak Cover/NGK Wires
New hardware for header heatshield, radiator hold-down, and A/C fan hold-down. (These looked slightly crusty due to age)

I will be inspecting the car for areas that require attention. I will clean the underbody/arches up and apply a protective lanolin coating. I plan on removing the mirrors/bumpers/sideskirts to check for any hidden issues as well. Will post pictures and whatnot as the vehicle comes together. I figured some people in here would appreciate seeing a DB8 ITR being cleaned up. There were more pictures on GooNet which I didn't save (STUPID ME) that were much higher quality.

Looks like a good buy, collect those maintenance parts and anything ITR while you can for your restoration. Tons of Integra and b series parts being discontinued daily from Honda

Will be following this. Those Recaros and steering wheel are pretty nice for 160k km. I'd consider swapping out that wheel if you're worried, not many left that look good!

x2 on getting parts while you can. The dizzy igniters I noticed recently are now discontinued.

Also is that plug cover one of the 98 spec "carbon" ones?

I have no clue to be honest. I will let you know when I get my hands on the car!

First batch of parts has arrived. Can anyone confirm if the CTR valve cover ground strap will look OK on the Integra? Original part is discontinued and unobtainium.

Chassis tag is hidden by air diversion plate. I'm new to Integras so I had no clue what it was at first. Does anyone have a clue as to what those wires are coming off the negative post? It looks like a junction of roughly 4 wires that snake over the P/S strut tower.

The four wires are probably an extra earth kit. They seem to be a bit of a thing in Japan.

Your car also has a centre arm rest which is a bit weird. Pretty sure they were only on lower versions.

Car has arrived in the USA! Have to pick it up once it clears Customs. Will be trailering it home to register it, have a post-purchase inspection done at my local Acura dealership, then begin wrenching! Process will be slow as I am a full-time engineering student but I am looking forward to it!

Car is getting a post purchase inspection. It looks really clean except for some surface rust near front and rear Jack point. Has the beginnings of left rear wheel well rust but it is so small.

Klasse,
The R does in fact have a 98 spec plug wire cover in addition to a 98 spec shift boot. Post-purchase inspection revealed a bad RR hub assembly and some more rust. The DB8R specific rear stiffening bar behind the rear bumper is rusted through. I will be sourcing a replacement. The rust isn't bad; it needs to be grinded off/treated/resprayed NH0. You can see the rear license plate mount has rust on it. Inspection also revealed my coilovers to be completely toasted. I sourced a used set of OEM shocks/springs for a great price (unsure as to whether they are 96 or 98 spec). The DB8R floor mats, shift ****, and steering wheel are in excellent shape. Car came with a stack of maintenance records in addition to all of the OEM manuals. Coolant/brake fluid/oil/PS fluid all look like they were changed regularly. Even has an old Honda Verno service decal inside the drivers door. I need to figure out what kind of radio setup to run so I can get rid of the stupid gauges. I'm a full time engineering student and it is very cold here in Northeast USA so I will be approaching the vehicle slowly. (Also have to finish up my Mustang that is sitting in the garage as well.) Cheers, I will try to post lots of pictures and whatnot whenever it is practical.

OEM wheels appear to have never been restored. The barrels are filthy so I will have to clean them up. Mugen twin loop needs a proper polish.

That '98 spec plug cover is a nice bonus, as the the original wheels. The '96 spec shift boot is available new cheap if you wanted it, '98 one looks good though. Have to say we are nearly twins - https://drive.google.com/file/d/1w0k...ew?usp=sharing
