How many wires are in the smaller second plug ??? I noticed that it appears that there is a fuel injector resistor box in your first photo... does the plug on that match the extra plug on your engine harness ??? Please understand that NO '96-00 Civic engine harness that I am aware of has a second plug on that side from the factory... so what you are asking for help on cannot be answered empirically... it will have to be "figured out".

Two things to examine: What is the OHM resistance value of each of your fuel injectors ??? Check to see if you have continuity between the positive side of each fuel injector connector and one of the wires in the extra plug... if there are FIVE wires in the extra plug, there is a distinct possibility that four of them go to each of the four fuel injectors and the remaining one has 12v+ on it when the key is turned on. If so, this is for a fuel injector resistor box... assuming that the OHM rating of the fuel injectors is between 2 and 4 OHMs. IF the fuel injectors have an OHM value greater than 10, then you would connect all five wires together in the opposing plug that you have in your hand in the above photo so that all four fuel injectors get 12v+ when you plug it into the engine harness.

I am not sure that I understand your response.

Please post a close up picture of both items that you have circled in BLUE above and describe where the four wires go in the lower pic above circled in RED (the ones that exit at the top-right corner of the pic).

In English, with punctuation:
Canadian 97 Civic hatchback originally and the wiring harness is from a Canadian 98 Civic DX which needs to run?/ran? with two other B16A VTEC motors with APEX'I ECU. So I'm trying to put the 98 harness into the 97, but there's this problem on the driver's side. Is a bypass possible?

I've come Into this same issue. You got it figured out? I'm looking to buy a new to me harness but I have the 2 plugs on my shock tower as well. And I keep seeing harnesses with one plug.
