2010 odyssey not starting
I had to park my van for the summer while I was traveling. I disconnected the battery and filled the tank before I left. Now I reconnect the battery but it won't start. First time i turned the key i saw a small wisp of smoke come up and a slight burnt smell. Battery and cables seem fine. Lights come on but does not turn over. I tested the starter relay by swapping it out. Could it be that the starter motor fried for some reason?
I'd be worried about what the smoke and smell mean.
Is it possible that an animal chewed some wires?
Is it possible that the wires involved have become more corroded?
Can you bench test the starter?
Have you tried the "hammer the starter" while cranking it method to try to free it up?
Are you sure the battery is fully charged and still healthy?
Is it possible the engine is seized?

Thanks for the reply. Yes I tested the battery it is good. Actually I am in the process of trying to replace the starter. Now that I've got the battery tray out I can see the burnt wire that connects the solenoid to the starter. not sure why it burned. Faulty ground? Now my problem is that I am not sure how to access the mounting bolts they are pretty deep in a tight space 😣
Corroded connections can definitely heat up beyond what's normal. If possible, plan to replace any excessively heated up cables to ensure you don't have a problem down the road (with a short leading to a fire). Clean all cable connection points.
