Default replace timing belt times

we have had our 1997 CRV since new.
manual says to replace the timing belt every 7 years
but how many miles or Km is that assuming?
the car only has 100000km on it! (62k miles)
belt was replaced 8 years ago, and very little mileage since then.

where do i find the miles between changes in writing

honda usa seems to have gone bankrupt as they never answer emails.

thanks all

Good question. Belts are made of 'rubber', so they do have a lifetime in years. The manual says to replace the timing belt at 105,000 miles (168,000 km or 7 years). That is the normal interval. But your vehicle is unusual because of the really low miles.

It also says to replace this belt at 60,000 miles (U.S.) or 100,000 km (Canada) if you regularly drive your car in one or more of these conditions:
In very high temperatures (over 110°F, 43°C),
In very low temperatures (under — 20°F, — 29°C).

Note that that specifies regular driving. But it also implies a lot of variability in timing belt lifetime especially with variability in temperature.

If you really want to be confident, just replace it every 7 years, with the understanding that that period is probably conservative and the parts in the bin are barely used. You will be the only person on their third timing belt at that number of miles. It's a reasonable interval for coolant and water pump replacement too, on a rarely-driven vehicle.

My opinion is you could probably go 100,000 km between belt changes, but I would not run the same belt for more than 12 years or so. I would also use an OEM belt if I were going to do this.

Timing belt a lot like tires where they dry and crack over time. Pull the timing cover and inspect condition if you are trying to save
