Looking at a 1993 4th gen Prelude (Si?), what to look for
Hey guys. I have a 10th gen civic si now and found a good deal on a prelude. I’m checking it out tomorrow. I know Honda’s are bullet proof and I’m mechanically orientated, but I’m new to these Honda’s. He says it’s a Si, with the 2.3L and 4 wheel steering. But the car has no badging for Si or Vtec. I know the Vtec was a separate model, but I’m having a hard time deciphering if it’s a Si. The Si’s had the H22, right?
how can I be sure it’s an Si? Also, what should I look out for? I’m in SoCal so not worried about rust.
the ac doesn’t work, how bad are Ac parts? The radio is gone, but besides a transmission issue it’s a clean body with low-ish miles and it looks in good shape.
he says the transmission (5 speed) is low on fluid and grinds lightly in 2nd. Worst comes to worst, how cheap are transmissions?
thank you all. I hope I can pick it up for a project+restoration.

H23A1 is non vtec engine. 4 wheel steering brings kinda more problems.... otherwise look for rust and oil leaks. Maintenance history determines is the engine bullet proof or not - nothing else.

You can tell if it's an Si because the USDM models came with the H23A1 non vtec instead of the H22 vtec. You can also check in the drivers side door jam since there is a sticker with the trim model on it.
You might be able to find a used trans for USD $450- $700. Restoring this car would be a cool project but just remember the H series can become an expensive engine platform very quick since they don't have as many after market parts as they do with the B series.
