Steering Wheel Vibrates and Veering to the Right at High Speeds
I just bought a 2000 Honda Civic. Previous owner disclosed that he thinks it has a wheel bearing and alignment problem because the car veers to the right and steering wheel shakes at 45miles plus. At lower speeds it is barely noticeable and drives good. There is a slight ticking sound coming from the wheels.
There are two winter tires on the front. I tried taking em off to replace with all seasons to see if this would resolve any of the issues and stupidly broke two studs when using my breaker bar. First time in my life I broke studs. Crazy.
I will likely be getting it towed into a mechanic. Initially I called a few places just to have them change the wheel bearing and studs, but I am thinking this might be jumping the gun on a problem that might not be the wheel bearing.
What do you guys think I should have them do?
The price I got on the car was $1,400 CAD at 225,000kms. Aside from the steering wheel vibrating and veering to the right, the engine and tranny are strong and overall everything else seems great. My first car was a 1999 honda civic and I loved that thing until I blew the tranny. Hope this isn't to costly of an issue to fix.
Thanks for your opinions.
