Default Having an issue with remote unlocking - video

My Civic's passenger-side door doesn't lock when using the remote. If manually I set the lock to its locked position, it will unlock if I press the unlock button on the remote. But if I try to lock it using the remote while it is already unlocked, it makes a sound and nudges a bit, but it doesn't lock.

Here's a video showing the issue:

Is this probably a worn-out lock actuator, or something else?

Oh, OK. But the same thing applies when the door's closed: It won't lock with the remote. If I press the lock button and then try to manually open the door, it opens (and the alarm goes off). If I manually lock the door and then press the remote's unlock button, it will unlock. But it won't lock when it's unlocked and I press the remote's lock button.

Does it lock if you press the electrical lock switch on the door panel? Or only when you manually press the mechanical switch? If the electrical lock doesn't lock it then try unplugging the connector and apply 12v directly to the actuator plug both ways. Only apply the power for a half second, not too long. If the actuator works with direct power then it must be a poor connection somewhere. If it doesn't lock with direct power then try taking the actuator apart and check for any damage on the gears in there. Maybe you can get away with cleaning and lubing it if there's no damage. Try those things and get back to us.

Thanks for the suggestion. I haven't tested if it locks with the interior electric control, but I'll try that. I don't think I have the means to apply 12v directly. Someone who is going to do some work on my car in a few weeks (after some parts arrive) suggested that the actuator can become worn down and need replacing. I was thinking of getting a new one and starting there. But maybe that person can test it with direct voltage like you mention.
