I am swapping in an aftermarket ECU and would like to replace the stock mechanical speedo cable with an electronic unit. Searching the forums I have found several posts regarding what is needed for that but I am still confused. I went to the junkyard and grabbed both the gear part and the vss unit from a 1995 Civic but am running into issues with fit. I was able to get the gear in by cutting off one of the ears, but the electronic vss unit won't fit due to the transmission bracket. Besides cutting into the trans mount to fit it is there a model that will fit without modification?
Not mind readers huh? The replacement is for a 90 civic SI, obviously manual. Like I said, I got the gear in by grinding off one of the sensor mounting ears but the sensor is just physically too big to fit on without grinding the trans mount
The new sensor
The size difference. The mechanical cable is slim and can avoid the mount, the electronic sensor is wide and does not clear the mount
I can grind off the second "ear" on the sensor just like I did for the gear but it still won't clear the mount.
I guess I can grind the mount but it would be great if there was a sensor/gear combo that fit.
I'm afraid I have no idea what that box is... did it come off an auto? The electronic VSS you need should have a similar body to the mechanical and will be identical in the internal half (what's inside the transmission). The gear is the pickup, without that it won't have any data.
EDIT: After some googling, I think I've never looked at an EG VSS before. Link below (pics gone sadly) says the EK VSS requires no modification, so I guess that's all I've ever seen swapped. Sorry! https://honda-tech.com/forums/honda-...e-out-2275971/

its not fitting because you need the WHOLE sensor and not just the electronic piece off the top...you need the gear as well....and the whole thing will slide into your cable transmission with ZERO problems
