What's up guys,
Long time lurker, new poster to the forum here with a RHD AUDM Integra project car. A little story background, Back around 2008 i used to come here to Honda-Tech and look at all the cool boosted Honda's and dream about the car i wanted to have and how i would build it. I used to sit there sometimes for hours after work just reading and making notes about what people were doing with their builds and how i could make something fast here in Aus for not much money, because back then Honda's used to be something that were affordable and fast. If you wanted to, you could build it with a budget and just go have fun. So a few years later to my surprise my little bro called me and asked if i would take a look at his Honda he'd just bought as it needed some work done and brought over a ITR swapped 94 VTI-R integra DC2, which is very close to a USDM Acura Integra GS-R in that they both share nearly the exact engine and trans but the engines are coded B18C2. Not long after i found one for a good deal in decent condition and i had the bug bad so i picked it up. I didn't really much like the color but its grown on me, it turns out the color is known as Burning Red Pearl or R-505P
It was a good driver but had a few little leaks which most Honda B's do, so i stripped the engine down in the bay and cleaned it up a bit in what would be the first of many times playing with this engine.
With the leaks all fixed the dizzy started to make some noises so i pulled it off and cleaned/rebuilt it with a NGK coil pack and a Tridon igniter. I know some people say to never use aftermarket ignition parts in the distributor but after it was built it ran perfectly and idled nicely. I had some more pics but sadly i was storing them on my phone and it crashed so ive lost many good ones but i'll keep posting some of the old ones i have and all of the new ones.
Its kinda hard to find a good OEM dizzy so i didn't wanna throw this thing away, but it turned out pretty good for a mini reco as you can see above so i put it back in and then a little way down the track the engine developed a top end milkshake..so i pulled the head and ported/decked it, added a new gasket and reassembled it with a new timing belt/water pump. While i was at it i also installed a new set of coil overs from Tein Japan as the suspension was totally shot. I had a bunch of pics but all i could find was the final assembly pic of the head back together..zoom zoom she was back in action again!
With the car running again and driving nicer with the new suspension it was time to take her out for a clean and a cruise.
I didn't like the GSR/VTIR rear wing so a few months later i came across a good deal on an OEM ITR rear wing on ebay from japan..so i bought it and pulled off my rear bar to repair a small crack it had and ended up finding a dent in the crash bar underneath so i repaired those with the help of some local business's in the area that repair plastic and a local panel beating shop who liked the car so they beat out the dent and re-welded it for me for a case of beer. Those crash bars are tough to beat back into shape! so i was happy with them for helping me out.
So with the rear bar repaired, i threw the wing on as is and dropped the suspension height. This is what she looked like, Yew!! starting to look better but a bit like a coke can with its red/white/silver colors so i dubbed it the coca-cola Integra for awhile
I drove it around that way for awhile collecting more stuff for the car but I wanted to go faster now, so i decided to add a 125HP NOS sniper kit (which i wont show for legal reasons) i then needed a better way to tune it. The car was now running AUDM ITR headers and exhaust which were pretty old and crusty but better than the standard GSR stuff i had, i also bought a Hondata S300V3 which i special ordered from SSR in the states and had brought back by an acquaintance, and a ported and shaved head to bump compression up a little bit, i also added a ITR LSD and final drive which i got from Yahoo Japan.
With the car getting faster, i needed better rubber and i was over the GSR blade look anyways, (a decision i regret now) so i said goodbye to the blades and installed some 16x7.5 +38 LSA wheels i found from a guy selling them off his circuit race car for a good deal.
The color looks different in this pic but its just the pearl reacting to the flash i used
She was starting to look pretty sweet and going well, pretty much undefeated..until disaster struck during a run against a dude in a boosted 350Z when it began misfiring and spitting coolant. I took it home, and she had popped the head gasket again sadly.
She sat like that awhile until i moved to a new location. A little while later i got the itch to spanner on it again and this time i wanted to make a change in direction so i sourced a spare engine planing to go Turbo and put the happy juice away..nobody likes the N2O happy juice treatment for some reason anyway..ahh well time to go turbo.
I started ripping into the car when covid19 struck and halted my plans..so with things hard to source, long wait times ect i had a rethink and decided i would again resurrect the original engine i had in the car as was a good engine. So i began collecting parts to get it running with a mild turbo setup while i waited on better stuff for the big engine build using the spare complete engine i had bought. During this time i approached a few company's and maXpeedingRODS reached out to me and donated me a turbo for the build. I decided to go with the GT30 street version they manufacture, and a 1320 Performance AC/PS friendly exhaust manifold with a custom exhaust setup consisting of a 3" downpipe into 2.5 testpipe, then into a resonator and exiting out to a 3.5" muffler, work resumed.
Off with the Head again! (i hate removing that GSR intake so that went in the garbage this time) notice the engine bay looks a lot cleaner since you saw it when i first bought it in the pics above.
Okay so! i have more pics of parts ect ect ect but instead of posting a bunch of engine parts i will just show you the progress of the engine as i put it together later.
The engine build for this motor is as follows:
B18C2 81mm Bore
ARP head studs
Cometic MLS head gasket
Nippon turbo pistons
maXpeedingRODS B18C series forged H beam conrods with ARP 2000 rod bolts.
ACL bearings
VMS block guard
Stock Head (serviced with new cometic valve seals + Skunk2 LMA's)
Skunk2 Pro intake
Stock TB
Stock fuel rail
AEM FPR
1000cc Huntertuned injectors
Raceworks 501 fuel pump
Moroso oil pan
maXpeedingRODS GT30 journal bearing turbo
1320 Performance ramhorn AC friendly
VS racing 44mm WG
Here are some pics of the turbo mounted and clocked on the manifold, and the silencer ive chosen to use for the 3 into 2.5" system which is a Blox downturn 2.5 into 3.5, it also comes in a 3" entry to a 4.5" exit but i didn't want a megaphone on it. I've got some pics of the rest of the system (downpipe ect) but i'll put those up as the engine goes back together.
Omg!..they killed Kenny..yes that's actually been stuck in the glovebox since before i owned it, don't worry coca-cola will be back you cant kill him! 😂
Anways..that's it for now! im currently waiting on a few things but i will update as i go. If anyone is interested i will post a review (if allowed) on the turbo im using pictured above. It's a good budget pad thai pounder and you can buy one for cheap using my discount code which i'll include for you guys to use with any products! 😁
