97 accord build
been looking at these threads, i want a decent street beater, v8 feeling hurter. yet reliable enough to daily without constant tweaks. seen the h22 swap, building the f22, something bout f20, the k swap, frankenstein build. any insight would be helpful
Yes sir.... they have all been done and well documented.
What is your budget? A V8 feeling hurter is going to cost you.
Any thing can be done, you have to pay to play if you want it to be fast and reliable. Fast and cheap is never reliable!
Best bang for your buck is make sure the stock F22B1/2 is healthy and boost it.

10 years ago it was easy to outrun the standard V8 "muscle"/"pony" cars with nothing but a stock engine, china turbo kit, and supporting mods.
Nowadays, technology has advanced a lot and any modern Coyote based platform or any V8 challenger/charger/etc is much more of a serious contender. Everything else is a turbo 4 or 6 now and with just a few mods they will be real contenders too.
You're going to want at least 400-450whp. For that a built engine will be required unless you opt for a K24 swap.

You will end up paying more for less building the F22 or swapping an H in there.
H series/F20Bs are priced out of this world now because the JDM well dried up. H series in particular are also expensive to build because of the sleeve material.
Building a 400+ capable F22 is going to be around 3k for the shortblock alone. Not to mention you will still be limited by the extremely lackluster cylinder head.
I've been doing this for a long time and unfortunately I'm too far down the H/F series rabbit hole to change engine platforms now. I can tell you from experience that if I had to do it all over again starting today, I would just go for a K24.
Either commit more $$$ or lower your expectations a tad. You can have a lot of fun with a 300whp stock block F22 on a china turbo kit. It's just not going to be a V8 killer like it once was.

Just my $0.02 worth here, the F22B1/2 heads flow just fine for boost. If anything the bowl to valve seat area and port walls can use a little cleaning up if you want to get a little better laminar flow.
But I agree, H/F series builds are a rabbit hole if you want to build them with reliable performance.
Go with a J series swap...lol 3.5L/3.7L with 300hp out of the box

They did but the engine mounting points are all different. The 5th gen Accords never had a J series so no model with the right mounting points, hence why custom is required.
It would probably be significantly easier to do something like a J32/6 speed swap into a 97-99 CL but we would never see it implemented in the aftermarket. Those cars are fairly rare and nobody really cares about them because the looks are definitely an acquired taste.

There was a CD (94-97) Accord that came with the C27 V6, I'm sure you could make those chassis fit a J series, or use the chassis/engine mounts from one of them to work in a non v6 chassis. Would require some cutting and welding though. Nothing bolt on available that's for sure.
I always wanted to mess around with a C27 Accord, possibly turbo one. Somebody did a 5 speed swap on one with legends parts a long time ago. Wasn't fast but it sounded cool lol.
The 95-97 Gen 5 with the C27 had the front end stretched about 2.5 inches making the fenders, hood, bumper, etc. different from the F22 models. I assumed this was to fit the larger motor. The 98-99 Acura used the J30 motor and, as far as I know, did not stretch the front to accommodate it. The C27 was a 90 degree V6 while the J30 was a 60 degree V6. This would make it narrower and not require the extra length of the front. So my thinking is that the J30 should be able to fit inside the F22 engine compartment where as the C27 would not. Maybe.
A H-T member had a one, using Civic J-swap mounts but he had to do some modifying of the mounts to make it work for the Accord chassis.
Interesting. I'll have to look for that. The last I saw was from Hondasociety maybe 6-7 years ago that used the stuff I mentioned. I'm sure things have advanced some since then, even though it's not a very popular swap. I have a spare chassis to play with...I'm starting to get ideas lol.
Edit: Nevermind. I went and dug up the build I was thinking of. It was a combo of modified J series EG mounts and an Accord H22 mount.
