Default Help me choose valve springs...

The cams I will be going with more than likely will be Skunk2 Tuner 1 cams. With that said their lift is only 11.5mm at max so not too demanding for springs. My main concern is no valve float and absolutely no dropped valves! Redline will be set to around 8,500rpms I'd say. Knowing all of that, what springs do you guys think I would be better off with? I've highlighted the springs that I personally think would be best but I'm not that knowledgeable. Also something I don't understand is, I go on Ramey Racing (very knowledgeable guys) and under the Ferrea valve springs they list the 110lb seat pressure springs for a "high reving turbo setup". S10086 - Seat Pressure 110 lb, Max Lift 13mm (Recommended for high rpm turbo) https://rameyracing.com/cylinder-hea...its-b-h-series

Why just automatically go for the heaviest weight springs? More wear and tear and slower motor. Am I missing something here?

They recommend 110lb springs for high revving cars as in 11K RPMS, also for cars running a big cams like Web Cam Pros. For your application you can go with Ferrea 80lb springs and be just fine, that is what I ran when I was using Skunk2 Pro1 Cams.

Ok that makes more sense.

What are the opinions on the two different springs I highlighted?

I think the S10070 is what I used previously, those have a seat pressure of 80lbs and will be plenty enough for the cams you are planning on using.

Those are a bit cheaper too.

By the way on their site they require Titanium Retainers for those cams which I think you said you didn't want to run unless I have you mixed up with someone else LOL

Unless I'm wrong, both part numbers I highlighted have Tool Steel retainer options (also highlighted)

Yes but did you take a look at the skunk2 website and look at the recommendations for the tuner 2 cams?

I don't see me going with Tuner 2 cams. Only 9.8 compression and a GT30R I do not see the benefit they would have over a Tuner 1 cam. Especially with day to day (not racing) driving in mind.

I'd go with the S10104 you highlighted, 80lb, dual springs designed for turbo applications, theyd be fine fore street use and for a stage 1 cam. The only place i'd consider them as not 110% sufficent would be your redline goal of 8,500rpm BUT they would handle it just fine, 10K and up I'd say go with a heavier spring.
You could probably even get away with a single spring if you wanted as long as they had a high enough pressure.

No a Tuner 1 camshaft... No bueno. "Street Car" is too general a statement.

Agreed. You would have to adjust cam gears and taking out all benefits to get maximum use. Basically brings it back to a GS-R or Tuner 1.
Stick with the 80lbs seat pressure.

Do you think it matters which 80lb seat pressure ones highlighted?

Yes. In this case, I'd stay simple with the 2nd one highlighted (Turbocharged application) due to the different alloy that more than likely works a bit better with the additional heat created by the increased cylinder pressures/temps of using a turbocharger. Glad you didn't get the 110lbs seat pressure one. that's for drag race 11K+ setups only. .However, the 80lbs seat pressure will not work if you ever plan to change to a turbocharger camshaft like a Kelford 176-T or GSC 7-series T1 turbocharger camshaft. So, keep that in mind when making your selection if you plan to leave the Tuner1 camshafts at all.

You say that but Ferrea themselves suggested the 2nd highlighted 80lb seat pressure springs for the GSC T1 cams. Stating the max lift isn’t over what the springs can handle.

I’ve personally been running the Skunk2 alpha retainer and spring set suggested for the Tuner 2’s but with my Tuner 1’s. I only have them in since originally I was running the Tuner 2’s, felt no need to remove them even after going to the 1’s. She sees the Friday drive to work and now I think 6 road race/time attack days this year so far. All well so far

I go by the manufacturer of the camshaft and what I've used. Not just Ferrea's recommendations. I spoke with Greg from GSC about this years ago, and if he says 85lbs seat minimum, then I go by GSC. This is just me talking, however.

I would think a set of supertech 85lb springs would be just fine. That’s what we are using with a set of tuner 1 cams and plan on 9k redline. My car I used 94lb springs with my Pro1 cams and turning 10,000 rpms

This valvetrain list is what I ran in my car for years, from when I street drove the car all the way until it was dynoing over 1000whp running 8’s with Skunk2 Pro 1 cams.

So I don’t care what anyone says LOL, this setup proved itself. Here was my receipt.

I think I'm more impressed that you're pushing the power you are with standard valves. I would have at least expected oversized valves if not extensive port work as well.
