Default 1990 Honda crx paint job

Hi everyone I知 going to start posting progress pictures of my crx si. I bought it 12 years ago used for $2,000. As you can tell I stripped the paint off couple years ago. I meant to paint it but it痴 rusting pretty bad so I知 going to get rid of the surface rust and neutralize it/get the car painted this summer. I am using Pheonix yellow y-56 paint which I bought from Napa last year. I bought the premium techbase paint. They said there is three lines of paint they carry and that ide be fine with the middle of the road one but I went with the most expensive one for best quality. I spent about $380 on a quart so it will look good I hope! May need more we値l see.
the hood will be gloss black along with the roof/sunroof and rear hatch by the spoiler and the spoiler will all be black. Everything on the sides are pheonix yellow. Eventually I値l swap a b20 vtec into it but I plan to get the car painted and fix the stock D16a6 engine that I blew last summer. It only has 20 psi on all cylinders which I値l make a separate thread for.

the plan is to just work on it here and there making progress on a Saturday or Sunday as often as I can since I知 away and can only be working on it once a week if I知 lucky. But lately I致e been making progress.

I want to...
Finish prepping the fenders, hood and get the rest of it stripped of surface rust and primed.
do body filling as needed and block sand perfectly smooth.
repair or replace damaged wings west body kit and make new again. Also replace rear spoiler as I ruined it when I was a kid by sanding gouges in it with a da sander before I knew what a inner face pad was.

hope you enjoy! I知 having a blast and I absolutely love this car and my Uncle used to work on this car with me before he passed away from cancer so it means a lot to get this going again for him. We spent hours working on this car together and I値l never forget how much fun it was...and still is to work on!

My truck vs. the crx.

Plastidipped hood from last fall

Another side view of my vehicles idk why but I really like this picture!

Most recent photo right here on 6/1/21. I have a lot of work to do! Let痴 get to it!

So here痴 the original fender. I started here because it was the worst panel on the whole car. I went and bought an autobody hammer and dolly set from Napa or harbor freight to straighten it out. If I could fix this fender I can do anything haha it was bad!

Here痴 that same fender with etch primer after I hammered the dents out/applied body filler and glazing putty. It was sooo bad I actually had to re create the body line from the front to the back and shape it with body filler, a technique I figured out on my own that I didn稚 even know was possible!

Here痴 the same fender with 2k high build....getting close to be done!

Done! I actually used to want to paint the crx silver smoke metallic based off a 2008 Nissan ultima. I found a match to a crx pick I liked that was silver so I matched It to a Altima. Bought a small sample of paint from Napa but now I知 redoing the same fender yellow and fixing mistakes I made while learning. This was a few years ago this pick with that color...

Not bad! Some orange peel and a crease, and some 80 grit sanding scratches plus a dent I missed! But overall I was fairly happy especially when you compare it to the first barbados yellow color it was it looks way better.

My hood a few years ago. I致e since rattle canned it with the black plasti-dip.

So the OG. Fender (the one that was yellow) is in the back closest to the car and the new used fender that痴 red came from a scrap yard I worked at last year!

Etch primed

My generator is a 8,750 watt predator from harbor freight. Love this thing, thanks babe! She got it for me for Xmas a couple years ago.

Template drawn for new fender mounted turn signal hole to be cut to match the red fender. This will be a nice upgrade!

So left is the used red fender and right is the OG. Yellow fender with template drawn and positioned ready to be cut

Yeah

Primed with 2K urathane high build!!

Applied body filler to begin repairing dents!

Need to re apply self etching primer on spots on burned through to bare metal whoops.

Looking much better but I still have to spray self etching and finish sanding the filler smooth in some places. Feather edge the filler and apply a glazing putty over the filler to fill in pin holes in filler

Getting close to being able to spray a sample of pheonix yellow over these fenders can稚 wait to get a taste of what the car will look like I致e never seen pheonix yellow in person before!
