Default My new project!!!

Hello everyone! Long time lurker, finally made an account to post. About 4 years ago, I had to give up my ‘92 Civic DX. I was out of town for work, and the crankshaft pulley bolt that the previous owner *welded* onto the pulley finally sheared off, leaving me without PS, alt, and A/C, I wasn’t gonna pay the money to tow it 6+ hours home so I junked it :/

Anyway! After 4 long years of dreaming of picking up another civic, I finally got a new-to-me ‘99 Civic EX!! It’s a little beat up, but I love it to death. It’s got a handful of things that need attention since it’s bone-stock and just over 150k miles. Original timing belt and everything, from what I was told. I want to fix all the stuff it needs right now with OEM parts, or as close as possible, and make a solid daily out of her. Then spend the next 4-5 years touching up the interior and sound system(maybe throwing on a few bolt-ons), and when it hits around 200k, pulling out the D16Y8 it’s got in it, rebuilding it with forged internals and *maybe* boosting it, maybe not. I don’t plan on taking it to the track, just using it as a fun daily to zoom around in.

I wanted to make this post to share my journey and also get any sage advice from your wise selves since this will be my first time doing a job this big. After meticulous research and planning, here’s what my current project list looks like:

Timing belt - $46(OEM-Majestic)

Head bolts -$50(OEM-dealership)

Head gasket - $39(OEM-majestic)

Oil pan gasket - $24(OEM-majestic)

Crankshaft seal - $5(OEM-Majestic)

Camshaft seal - $5(OEM-majestic)

Oil pump - $78 (Melling)

Motor/trans mounts - $75(ebay)

Strut/springs - $321(KYB)

Tensioner - $14(NSK)

Tensioner spring/bolt - $20(OEM-ebay)

Water pump - $36(Aisin)

Drive belts - $12(Bando)

Intake gasket - $2(felpro)

Exhaust gasket - $5(felpro)

Valve cover gasket - $11(felpro)

Spark plugs - $17(NGK)

Cat back exhaust - $110(Spec-D)

14 pc. Suspension kit - $145(1aauto)
(kit includes: Front Sway Bar Links, Front Lower Ball Joints, Rear Upper Control Arms, Front Outer Tie Rods, Front Upper Control Arms with Ball Joints, Steering Rack & Pinion Bellows, Front Inner Tie Rods)

I haven’t planned out the specific order of how I’m doing this, but I have a digital copy of the Helms and have been reading it religiously. I also have been looking through this forum(and others) for guides and builds on how to do most of these jobs. I also have access to ProDemand as well too if I need any additional guidance.

I got a straightedge and feeler gauge set to check the block and head surfaces for warpage, and also am planning on doing a valve job when it’s all back together.

I’ll share photos of the parts and the beginning stages when I get started, but I’m in no rush, so in the meantime, I’d love to hear any of your thoughts and suggestions!! Thanks for reading, I look forward to being a part of this community!
