Default H22 with h23a1 crank? Need help with valve clearance

I’ve seen a couple threads about this setup I’m using a jdm h22 I blew the valves so I built the top end sk2 stage 2 cams sk2 lightweight stock sizes valves sk2 springs and bc steel retainers head is ported and polished sk2 intake manifold and speed factory 70mm throttle body the block was stock but I spun a rod bearing.

local machine shop quoted me 150$ to grind the crank I just found a nippon racing h23a1 crank on eBay for 215 figured minus well stroke the block to get more power I’m also getting 8 lb flywheel and removing balance shaft belt. I already have a custom exhaust with 1320 header and 3” exhaust with 3” muffler and 3” custom cold air intake with Injen filter..

my question is the h23 has 4.3 mm more stoke so the pistons are gonna sit 2mm above the deck so do I need a 2mm head gasket? I’ve heard of people running this setup with a stock .030 head gasket but having stage 2 cams will they be close to hitting? Any input would he highly appreciated. Thanks

You cannot use the H22 rods. You can use F22/H23A1 rods and a thicker head gasket. Alternatively you can use a set of H23A blue top(stamped PCF) rods if you can source them and it will be a direct fit. The PCF rods are .5mm shorter than F22/H23A1 rods.

Hey thanks for the reply so I’ve heard you can use the jdm h22 pistons and rods with h23 crank but you have to use larger head gasket because using the 95mm stroke crank the pistons will travel 4.3 mm more about 2.1 mm up and 2.1 mm down. I’ve seen this setup used on forums even with stock head gasket (not recommended) according to compression calculator;
https://liam821.com/pix/info/hfseries.html

the compression ratio. With h22 block h23 crank and h22 rods and pistons with a 0.060 hg is 12.5 static compression which paired with my ported head and Skunk2 stage 2 camshafts (with sk2 valves springs and retainers) might be tunable with 91 octane gas... I know 12.5 compression ratio is hard to tune on pump gas but I figured the bigger cam will help lower the compression a little.

only problem I’m having is Honda disconnected the oem h22 rods so now I’m looking at the Skunk2 alpha hbeam rods what would you guys recommend? (Will jdm pistons work with hbeams?)

I already ordered the 0.060 head gasket it was 110$ so I’m really trying to go ahead with the h22 rods and pistons so we can get that extra stroke...

doesn’t seem too bad according to the compression calculator (using h23 rods with this same setup would result in 10.7 sc instead of 12.5 difference is the rod length...)
