2004 ELEMENT axle noise in first!?
I have a 2004 element 2WD (automatic) and after replacing both front axles and almost all the front suspension I am still getting a noise from the driver side axle as if it is skipping teeth. The old axles did the same thing but there was no metal shavings or damage to the teeth that go into the transmission. No visible signs of damage on the transmission side. Only happens when its in first and i hit the gas too hard. What is the issue? I am at a loss on this.

It sounds more like a failure of the counter shaft bearing in the side cover. I had mine fail and it was noisey, mostly but not just in first. . sort of loud and chattering/grinding
in first gear. .. it is replaced as a unit with the side cover.
You can get a bearing but usually hole for the bearing in the side cover is worn from the bearing race turning slowly over time ( this is the chattering noise as the bearing binds at jiggles around) Also, the bearing on the other side of the case can be worn in the same way and lose in the case... there are shops that will machine and shim a new bearing into the case side to save the case if this happens.
