Bought a 2000 Accord coupe a few months ago. F23a4 (ULEV) with manual transmission. It's my first Honda. Had a few small minor issues but was a good deal......or so I thought.
Had to bleed the clutch a few weeks ago. No big deal.
Go to work today. Head to lunch then when I leave.....car won't start. Won't even try. Luckily wife was with me during lunch so she took me to work. Had a buddy of mine come look at it with me when I got off. We push started the car then drove it home. Me and my dad looked at it when he got off and determined it was the starter. Order a new starter. Will be here tomorrow around around 10. Go to pull the starter.......bottom bolt (17mm) was really hard to turn and now it won't turn at all. At first we tried tightening then loosen over again but now it won't go either way. I even tried tapping the socket with a hammer and nothing. Were gonna try to put some WD-40 or something on it tonight and try again in the morning.
My question is......I might have to replace that bolt but the local auto parts store only stock various starter bolts so idk which one I should get........
Finally got the bolt out and it didn't snap in 2 thankfully. Need to replace the bolt though. The last quarter inch of the threads looks like it was possibly cross threaded. Also.....I've changed a couple starter before. One in a Saturn I used to own and another in an 68 Ford pickup I had back in HS as my first vehicle and I don't remember the bolts for those being this long......
is your security system preventing you from starting it with the key? Can you jump the solenoid with a screwdriver.
I do not know much about the 2000 accords security.
If you have good grounds and power i think that is where i would look.
I'm not sure if it's the security system......I bought the car off a guy on Facebook....I only have the one key.....it's been working fine till yesterday.
My dad said something about jumping the solenoid but it's been raining so I'll just have to try tomorrow.
Have you checked to make sure you are getting voltage to the starter? I believe if it's the security system, you should turn the key and see the security light (a Key flashing). You can also put the key in and wiggle the ignition and see if it starts (which would tell you that you need to change the ignition switch).
But I would also check fuses and power to starter.
