Default Stock b16 turbo

I got a stock b16a2 and I want to slap a turbo on it. I honestly know nothing about turbos. My power goal is around 250-300whp. My budget isn’t very high. Somewhere around 1k for turbo and everything. Am I gonna need to upgrade some parts on my engine like better pistons?

I doubt you are going to be able to get a functional build done for $1000 unless you have most of the parts laying around. Buying new, the clutch, ECU and injectors will already have you well over budget. Sure, you can buy a turbo that costs less than $1000 but all the additional bits that make the system work add up quickly. So you are going to need to scrounge parts and buy second hand or from junk yards, have the ability to fabricate parts and figure out a way to tune the car on the cheep. I'm not saying you can't do it as the 24 hours at Lemons guys have proven you can, I'm just saying you can't build a reliable turbo for $1000 without making some serious compromises.
