Default Power fault to ground in reverse lights

2004 Civic EX - Auto
The car has been killing batteries.
Currently, with a one year old alternator and brand new battery, a mechanic narrowed the problem to within the reverse lights.

Pull the (back up lights) fuse out within the box under the hood and:
  • the drain goes away
  • Right reverse light still turns on in reverse
  • keyfob no longer functions

Do these other symptoms point to anything specific or should I just start tracing the line back from the fuse box?

I've read that power is provided on the yellow back to the switch on the transmission/shifter and then contributes on the black/green. The bulbs/sockets have already been ruled out.

All information and help is greatly appreciated!
-Jonathan

What year and model trim level (LX, EX, etc.) is this? Also, automatic or manual transmission?

There are various components protected by the fuse. Different trim levels have some different components.

The following circuit/components are protected by Fuse No. 10.
  • Keyless Receiver Unit (EX models)
  • CarLink (if equipped)
  • Gauge Assembly
  • Shift Lock Solenoid
  • A/T Reverse Relay
You may try individually disconnecting the components with Fuse No. 10 still plugged in to check for the excessive parasitic drain.
