Default Aftermarket Motor/Trans Mounts-Any Good Ones?

2005 CRV-EX, auto transmission, AWD, 135,000 miles. It doesn't get a lot of miles since I've retired a few years ago, but I don take some 500 mile trips to visit family a couple times a year.

I did a search here and couldn't find much on this subject site-wide. If you're interested in background, read below. But here is the bottom line question: I have a slight tear in the engine/transmission mount. I can't detect any defects in the other mounts, but I'm considering replacing them all. The best online price I can find for Honda OEM for this part (50805-SJF-981) is about $120. There are a lot of cheaper options on RockAuto, eBay, Amazon, etc. From what I've been able to determine, a lot of them are junk that fail quickly. The only grudging recommendation is to use the Beck Arnley brand (part #104-1687 for the trans mount)

So, any recommendations or experience with aftermarket mounts would be appreciated for transmission/motor mounts.

I've been attempting to diagnosis some front end vibration and a front end clunking noise most evident at speeds of 20-40 mph over uneven road surfaces. I'm not usually a parts swapper, but as others have noted, this can be an extremely frustrating problem. I've replaced the struts with KYB Struts Plus units mainly because I wanted to inspect the top mounts and due to mileage and the labor involved, I figured it made sense to just replace them. I've replaced the sway bar links and sway bar bushings (MOOG), and the passenger side CV joint that had excessive end to end play with an aftermarket one (Cardone). The driver's side CV axle was replaced with a Cardone unit due to a torn boot last year. Unrelated, brake pads, rotors and calipers were all replaced 3 months ago.

During my examination of front end components, I discovered a small tear in the transmission mount (the mount under the air box on the driver's side). I'm not sure if this is the source of the problem as it's a small tear and doesn't yet seem to permit a lot of play, but the mount needs to be replaced. As far as I can tell, the other mounts don't have torn rubber isolators and they don't have excessive play. However, I have been told by a mechanic I trust that even though the rubber isolators in mounts and bushings aren't torn or crumbling, they can compress and harden on the the weight bearing side, resulting in noise. But when probed gently with a screwdriver the areas I could reach, they rubber appears flexible..

Any thoughts recommendations on aftermarket mounts that may be decent?

Just stick to OEM. You’ll end up buying again when those aftermarket ones fail prematurely.

Thanks, DREW. I'm leaning that way (OEM).

But it's gonna be painful. For just the Left and Right mounts, the best OEM combined price I could find online is $297.29, and the Beck Arnley from RockAuto.com is $88.58 for both.

i got some aftermarket mounts for my '94 subaru. terribly sorry, i just don't recall what brand offhand as it was years ago. point is, there are some good aftermarket products. it did require some days of research when i was looking. that in mind, i'll suggest not limiting your searches to being honda specific. if a company is making good mounts for toyota, subaru, etc, then they're making them for hondas, as well. know what i mean?

it's not a popular opinion with purists (said affectionately ), but in the years of hanging around a shop and working there from time to time, i've come to have more regard for aftermarket retail parts (with exceptions...ie. the "cheap" stuff) as they were generally used for many repair applications and those vehicles are still on the road...including mine. cost aside, the plus with AM retailer is warranty and ease of exchange. and, ime and imho, you're never guaranteed any part will not fail. there are some caveats with electronic ignition...eg. sensors and the like, go OEM...but, a percentage of my CRV's ignition is aftermarket and it's run great for several years, now. as well, ALL of the suspension/chassis parts on ALL of my vehicles is aftermarket. and, i live offroad

ps, i just remembered i got a new mount for my '92 4runner not real long ago and i may still have the box for it in the shop. i'll have to look
pps. i do not work for any parts store or company. i'm just an economy minded woodland mechanic having worked on my own cars for nearly two decades

Just changed out my motor mounts (with OEM) and the car feels brand new. I had vibration at idle, this loud grinding under throttle when going from a stop, sounded like my front wheel bearings were worn out and that my general grabbers were loud as hell. After installing the new mounts, all those noises are gone.

rear and pass side mounts were fine. front and trans were shot to hell. car has 193xxx
