Default Desperate need of help 2000 Civic (VTEC) Manual trans on a '97 Civic (NONVTEC) Engine

Hey guys, i was wondering if you could help me out w my problem here.

I've got a 97 civic nonvtec sedan manual, and the inputshaft bearing is worn out, or at least i assume its the input shaft bearing. Everytime i drive on first and i go past 3k rpm, it just starts grinding and rattling in the gearbox. On 2nd and 3rd, when im at higher rpms 4-5 rpm, i can feel and hear bits getting tossed around in the gearbox, but doesnt affect my driving as much.

Im currently trying to get a 2nd hand gearbox from a 2000 civic vtec manual, but the guys at the wreckers are telling me that the transmission wont work on my nonvtec engine and is insisting on finding me a nonvtec gearbox for my car.

Keep in mind i already paid AUD$350, and for aud, this is really cheap apparently. I've scouted around and people have charged me $500-600 for 2nd hand manual transmissions.

Not 100% what to do from here. Should i force the guys at the wreckers to give me the trans? Or should i wait for them to let me know when theyve found a "nonvtec" trans for my civic ?

Help me out guys!
Thanksss
