Default Wipers Won't Shut Off

i know that this is a common problem but i don't know the fix. the wipers on my 95 del sol turn on by them selves and then won't shut off...
what's the fix? do i have to change the wiper motor?

THANKS

I would guess the wiper switch is actually broken and stuck in the on position. Replace the wiper control arm to fix. Happened to me on my GSR.

Diagnose first. Next time it happens, push UP on the stalk slightly and see if they shut off. This is likely your issue.

There is no traditional relay for the wipers. There is a relay circuit for the intermittent wiper, which is part of the integrated control unit (plugged into the back of the under-dash fuse box).

The cause can be due to:
  • faulty combination wiper switch
  • wiper motor
  • short to ground in a wire going to the wiper motor
  • integrated control unit (less likely, ICU is principally related to intermittent wiper control and wiper park function)
The attached TSB relates to certain 1998-2000 2-door Civics; but, illustrates what a faulty wiper motor can do. Note: the wiper motor for your Del Sol is a Mitsuba and not a Denso brand like shown in the TSB.

Thanks for that PDF... I got sidetracked on the sol and now it's ALMOST on the road so I have to do this job asap.
do you know if it's possible to fix the broken part in the motor assembly? it's a shame to replace a good motor..

OK, I don't want to throw money at this problem and the turn-signal switches are expensive. the wipers will shut-off but only for a short while then they turn on again and stay on until i manually twist the switch to on then off again. I also looked at my wiper motor gears and that plate with the rotating electrical contact assembly. someone online suggested that they cleaned the grease off the connectors and his problem was solved.

Question: will the wiper switch from my 95si work on my 95s well enough to determine if my the switch is bad on my 95? I'm not going to use it as a permanent replacement I just want to do a test before I start buying parts.

Yes. They’re all basically the same, only option being the rear wiper but even those will still fit and work in a non rear wiper’d car.

ok, thanks... I'll switch them around and see if that's my problem. if one is bad i'm going to take it apart and try to fix it.
