Default Ignition problem

Hello

So..
I have a Civic Ej9 from 2000 (D14Z1 as base). Two years ago I did a mini-me swap with a D16Y8 head and intake manifold (P06 ECU and OBD2B to OBD1 harness).
Now, I had to swap the engine, I have found a D16Z7 (Z7 not Z6) for a good price and started working on putting the new engine on the car.

The engine is running but I have massive issues with the ignition timing (At leas this is what I think)

Basically is not running right:
- on idle is misfiring from time to time (or at leas sounds like a misfiring or late spark)
- if I rev to 2000-3000 same out come as on idle but more frequently
- while driving is event worst, on high load (if I flor it from 2000RPM) the engine is not revving, is limping and somehow misfiring... don't know exactly how to describe it.

What I have tried:
- I have changed the distributor from OBD2 to OBD1 (also replaced the distributor head and rotor with new ones)
- As base map on my ECU I have de D16Z6 map from HTS (I have tried with Crome.. same outcome)
- The timing belt is aligned well
- The ignition timing is fine (checked with a timing light, service mode ON)
- I have trayed to tweak the ignition timing (advance the ignition with 2-3 degree) from the ignition map but nothing has changed.

Any ideas? Is the ignition timing f**** up? Maybe I don't have the right distributor? Looks like a mechanical problem since I'm using a clean D16 base map... I really don't know, I'm out of ideas

Thanks!

Yeah could be mechanical as you figure- a valve issue or maybe low compression due to incorrect valve clearances or piston/ring issue- how about checking or doing a valve adjustment or before that you can do a leak down test to see if the valves or piston rings are sealing as they should. As to really check the ignition timing so see if it's dead on I have seen where an oscilloscope and pressure transducer along with secondary ignition probe would tell one if the timing is really dead on---might want to find a shop that can tell you if timing is dead with a scope but only as a last resort IMO
