D15Z1 install on D15B7 non vtec auto chasis, any advice would be helpful
I have a 95 civic lx non vtec auto car and sadly the engine is toast so I'm currently trying to install an engine which seemed to be compatible but turned out to be a D15Z1. I'm not sure if the engine was mislabeled because the donor vehicle was supposedly a 94 civic dx. For now I just want to install the z1 engine without modifying the stock ECU. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance
Yes it is and you will not be able to run it without the right ECU or chipping your existing P06 and adding the vtec module. Even that I'm not sure will work as the Z1 has an EGR and the P06 did not have any support for EGR. Only the P07 ecu had EGR for the OBD1 ecu's in North America.
You would have to lock vtec on permanently for the P06 to remotely run the engine without too much variance. Even then the cam is smaller than the B7 engine so it might run a bit rich.

I know the engine won't work as intended if I install it this way but since I'm stuck with this engine and a few days of warranty I wanted to at least try it a few days to see if it works. I've also seen on a similar thread that you can run the car without chipping the ECU and bypassing the vtec just being careful with the revs. So can you give me some basic info on how to wire the z1?
I am not sure how you are going to be able to work it. Like I mentioned, the P06 ecu doesn't have any EGR controls to it. You would have to lock vtec to on so that it's the closest to the B7 cam lobe being run. And the wiring I'm not so sure exactly, 2 wires need to be moved on the engine harness while leaving all the EGR wires unplugged on the extra plug your bay harness doesn't have nor the ECU can accept.
I managed to successfully install the z1 engine but now I have no spark and I wanted to know what kind of distributor I would have to install so that my car can start and work properly

Z1 or Z6 distributor.
Also looks like the cat is missing off that z1 pictured.
Are you going for the z1 fuel economy or just something that runs?

It's generally illegal for junkyards to sell converters, but they are valuable for scrap. So this is typical.
OP, I would have tried to find a different engine. The Z1 is valuable to and that one looks like it's in pretty solid shape. It could be make your sedan into a really great hyper-efficient commuter but you'll need to do the work as outlined above. Otherwise, it's going to be a struggle to get it running decently.

Thank you for your feedback and sorry for the delay I've been pretty busy. I just want something that runs and has at least 25 mpg.

I forgot to mention that my mechanic used the car with old gasoline that smelled very bad (it had about 8 months in the car). When I first ran it it was stalling about once a day and the throttle was lagging sometimes. I then replaced the fuel filter spark plugs (nkg iridium with nkg wires) and air filter. After that mild "tune up" is when I decided to clean the fuel system with sea foam and two days later I got the no spark issue.
