Default Clutch pedal soft then hard to press towards the end

Yesterday while driving there was an odd “click” dull sound coming from the clutch pedal when pressed, but car shifted fine.

Then suddenly the pedal became very soft for 3/4 of it’s travel, but the last 1/4 to the floor was VERY hard.

This last 1/4 distance was needed to allow me to engage into gear and the clutch seemed to grab as I barely let off the pedal. I’m able to shift no problem as long as I really press hard to get that last 1/4 distance and the pedal does fully return to the top when not pressed.

At first I thought it was something in the pedal itself but when inspecting the linkage there nothing seemed damaged/broken (unless I missed something?)

I tried bleeding it but it made no difference.
The master and slave were both replaced a little over a month ago for a different reason of not being able to get it into gear.

Anyone ever have a similar issue? Not sure what else to do/check

The clutch pedal can be adjusted you need to crawl underneath and use a 10 mm wrench i believe, adjust it till it feels right to you when shifting.

A soft pedal normally sounds like air in the system.

If the master wasn't bench bled before install, there is a high chance there is still air in the system.

Ive already tried that numerous times to see if it helps, but it only changes the amount of free play and where the clutch engages from the floor.

Also noticed that the less free play the easier it is to get into gear. If I adjust to factory specs the clutch never fully disengages.

But even with that, the soft then hard pedal feel still persists. I’m wondering if there’s anything mechanically broken like the pressure plate causing that little bit of extra resistance towards the end of the pedal stroke?

Could air be trapped somewhere that eventually works its way out in time to an area that would cause an issue? Because I had a firm pedal for a while since I’ve changed the slave/master until yesterday. Yet I don’t see any leaks and reservoir is still full.

I also noticed that the clutch fork is moving the entire time the pedal is pressed. There’s no delay during the soft pedal feel

It's a sealed system, if there is air in the system, there will always be air in the system.

Spongy brakes is typically an air bubble. You could try re-bleeding them the factory method but I'm not sure if it will get it out of the master cylinder area. I think a bench bleed needs to be done, the re-hook the lines back up to the master then bleed of each line in the proper order.

If that doesn't fix it, then you may have a bad master right out of the box.

I’ll try it. So you don’t think it’s a mechanical issue like a broken clutch fork or pressure plate?

Had a local mechanic say it might be a mechanical damage with the clutch itself.

Recorded the clutch fork movement for better reference. It moves the entire time the pedal is pressed that’s why I don’t think it’s air. If you notice towards the end of the travel it kind of binds and requires more pressure to get it to move the last bit (which is needed or clutch doesn’t disengage)

After re-reading your first post. You heard a click and then immediately the change. And you are witnessing the clutch fork move it's full range.

That does sound like something mechanical went awry. I would guess something with the pressure plate.
