2nd Gear Popping out on an EG4
I've been having this issue with my EG4 hatch were 2nd gear on occasion pops out either during 1st to 2nd shifting or shortly after the gear is engaged. I do have a short shifter that has been fitted by its previous owner so I have no idea about the specs on that but my suspicion would be that its related to this issue. Its a very temperamental problem as well. I can go a whole day without it happening and on the other hand it can happen at almost every shift.
The other obvious thing could be some sort of transmission issue. All the other gears are fine and sound healthy without any grinding or popping out issues. I'm still trying to source were the issue is coming from so I can take action accordingly. Any insight on this would be greatly appreciated.

Do what Ang008c recommends. I would guess you have a worn 2nd gear, which means rebuild time (synchros, bearings, 2nd gear). Probably not what you wanted to hear.
S20 should mean aluminum shift forks which don't typically bend, instead they break. So it would most likely be worn 2nd gear. Kind of a common gear to take abuse with street racing as that is the one you are slamming into gear at redline most often on the red light take off race.
It wouldn't be hard to find a OEM shifter and replace the short shifter, Short shifters put extra stress on synchro's etc. Easy way to rule that out! If it still pops out pull the trans and have second gear inspected/ replaced.
You can try installing new or aftermarket detent springs which might help keep it in gear if its a worn out detent spring, these are very cheap and easy to install!
