Default Variable Timing Solenoid now in two pieces

P0011 code. I tried to remove the control valve to clean it, and the solenoid came off and left the piston part in the motor. Has any one seen this? I tried to pull it out with plyers but no luck. is there a tool or trick to get the 2nd part out. It has 190,000 miles and has never been pulled out.

Its usually 1 piece.
I have never seen one break apart like that. .
I would try to insert a screw in it and pull it out. That's a head scratcher for sure.
