Goes into Limp mode every time i accelerate a bit hard....HELP Please,
Hi all,
I just purchased a 1997 Honda Accord H22A 2.2 DOHC vtec, unfortunately, its the Automatic which i do plan to swap out sometime in the future.
Anyways car has all of a sudden started to go into limp mode as soon as I accelerate a bit hard.
car drives fine when just taking it easy, and goes into all gears ok.
In limp mode drives ok taking it easy but does not kick down in gears and slowly gathers speed
Also in limp mode, i have to manually change gears to pick up speed.
D4 light starts flashing but no check engine light. if i turn car off and start again D4 stops and ias soon as i accelerate a bit hard starts flashing again.
i have checked the gearbox oil and its clean, gearbox solenoids are also clean.checked the gearbox ecu and there is no signs of any burning or anything looks very clean.
Also i get a ticking sound coming from drivers side engine bay when accelerating is that normal?
Any suggestions???
I have added pictures of the Transmission ECU does it look after market or stock?
Re: Goes into Limp mode every time i accelerate a bit hard....HELP Please,
@99stockcivic thanks mate for the reply, i was looking for the obd port everywhere i dont have a clue where it is on this car, i checked all umder passanger side dash, behind the ashtray even round the drivers side dash couldnt find it anywhere.
I went for another drive and found driving manually even hard shifting up or doewn no d4 light and as soon as i put it auto and the car shifted down even at slow speed the d4 light would start flashing and go into limo mode.. if i just restart car light turns off and back to normal until it has to shift down in auto no matter what speed i go.

If this is a pre-ODB-II car, then the passenger side front kick panel is removed, and a blue 2 wire connector located.Use a jumper wire to short out the connector, then turn the ignition key on,with engine off,not running. This throws the computer into self diagnostic mode, and the D4 or "s" light will flash a series of flashes. The flashes have to be counted, and written down. For example,2 flashes followed by 4 flashes would be a code 24.Then the code can be looked up. After the repair is made, the battery is disconnected,or pull the 7.5 amp fuse in the fuse box under hood to clear the code.
