I just putt a high performance remanufactured transmission in the car makes a big difference. Unfortunately I live in California and they are targeting our cars

Yeah, they are gearing up, at the moment everyone I've heard from has had their car pass. Looks like the rules are going into place but the facilities are not updated to try and scan for altered computers just yet. But it's coming, you are right.

How are they going to scan for altered computer EPROM's? That's **** that the Dealership can barely catch on to. My KTuer altered ECU still reads like a stock ECU when you hook it up to a scanner.

I guess they could look for disabled sensors! But if you are building your **** right, there should be no need for that. It has to pass visual first, so if you have major mods they are going to get you there anyway.

Actually, it's pretty easy to do a couple of checks and spot something is altered. One is to check the file name, which many people change. Second is the really troublesome one, and that's if they start checking checksums on each section. That will show up that's it's altered pretty quickly. They may not know what it was, but they can tell because the checksum is different. One would have to attempt to forge the checksum, but then remember to change it back after the inspection because otherwise the tuner software will also think it's corrupted if you go to make any further changes. There's also the CVN and a few other things that can give it away. Plus the VIN better match now.

I agree it's very unlikely that someone at the inspection station will have this yet, but it's coming. And I don't know about your experience, but I've seen dealerships reflash a car if they think something is off, inadvertently destroying a tune. So, they may not be able to check well, but they can certainly tell if they know how to use their software.

In any case, it's going to be a new game to get around these new rules. I bet there will be a whole new category of having 2 ECU in the car, the one they hook up for inspection so you can pass, and the real one running the car. Not the first time I've seen that done.

Hopefully groups like BAR will help.

I am so glad we don't do any sort of ECU, Emissions/smog testing here, They check the dash and if the CEL isn't on you are good to go! We are going to go full on straight from ICE to EV one day and that will be the extent of our ECU/Emissions testing.

I wish all of you non compliant owners the best of luck with your tuning!

One thing I can’t stand is removing my Headers every time I have to smog. I still have a AEM intake that has CA CaRB number but I still get dirty looks and told they won’t do my type of car. It’s amazing how many people hate the tuner crowd. When I drive my ride I get nothing but turning heads. I don’t like to drive it just because of how munch money and time I spent on my car. Sold it to mom off the lot in 97. When she died I got it back raised my boys and it sat inoperative. Then I got a hair up my *** and when’s to work.. that was two years ago. I just got it back and I have to register in March errrr
