Default S40 Transmission - Spring loaded steelball purpose

Hello,

Im going to replace my transmission, i'm reading the manual and multiples honda tech posts about S40 transmission, and i still have trouble understanding the purpose of these spring loaded steelball.
Im trying to carefully understand every part of the transmission before replacing it.

Thank you for your help

Those steel ***** correlate to indents on the shift rods with the shift forks. You can see the 3 notches on all 3 of the rods in your picture above. It keeps the vibration from working the transmission out of gear as you are driving.

Speed factory makes an upgraded spring that makes it more stiffer and precise when shifting. It kind of snaps in gear even more so using a the hybrid short shifter.

I have them in my B16A trans with K-Tuned shifter and poly linkage bushings. The difference was very subtle. If you're doing an oil change or otherwise need to get under your car for something then take the 2 minutes and pop 'em in. Otherwise I wouldn't go out of your way.

Edit: here's a photo from install.

Yes the difference is night and day! I'm not sure about how it feels with a OEM shifter or other aftermarket shifters but using it with the Hybrid short shifter the feels is greatly enhanced! I love how it snaps in gear and feels very precise! has a completely different feel compared to the OEM setup.
